About Dr. Melisa M. Valentin
I have loved dedicating 20 years of my life to learners from all parts of the world, specifically international students and historically marginalized ethnic and racial groups. I combine my background in political sciences and international relations, curriculum, and instructional knowledge and experiences with my cultural competence to give voice to the human experience. I intend to continue to deepen my connection with diverse cultures, diverse learners, and multicultural education through research, instructional design, curriculum evaluation, and program evaluation. I aim to empower those around me and actively participate in policy change. My main research interests revolve around culturally responsive teaching, multicultural education, equitable literacy, the impact of curriculum and instruction implementation and the neuroscience of learning.
I have a BA in Political Sciences with a minor in pre-med from the University of Puerto Rico and an MA from Brigham Young University in International and Area Studies. I hold an MS in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governor’s University. I completed a doctoral degree in Education at University of Louisiana Monroe.
